To All The Clothes I Loved Before

Dear Wardrobe,

I know you’ve been neglected, but it’s been quite the year.

Most of us haven’t left the house in about that long. Work now means that instead of dressing up to go to the studio, we barely get dressed to go to the basement. Some of us neglect to put on pants for Zoom calls.

So I get it that you’re a little mad at me. I’m mad at me too. I don’t feel like myself anymore. I love all of you – wild animal prints, patterned filmy blouses, cool girl jeans with the rips that cost extra!

How do you think the shoes feel? I’ve been barefoot except when I walk the dog.

The last thing I bought before lockdown was a new summer dress. It is navy blue with a smattering of polka dots and flowers at the hem. I had weddings and events, but now it hangs in the closet with the tags. I had to put it away because it made me sad and guilty to see it.

However, things are starting to change. I can feel my inner glam-girl start to reawaken.

I recently bought the Kiragrace Leopard pants by Kathryn Budig. I finally feel ready to feed my inner spirit animal. I cannot wait for the season’s colors and patterns to match my rallying light.

What’s more, I’m going to put on that new dress even if I have to wear it around the house. I’m also going to put on shoes. Then I’m going to swipe on a bright lipstick and cuddle with my husband, who will surely be barefoot and in sweatpants. It’s okay; it’s a good look on him.

Do not worry, wardrobe. We are not breaking up. We’ve been through a rough patch, but now we’re going to come back stronger than before.

Love,

Michelle
