Bold & Beautiful: Kathryn Budig's Collection Inspiration

Bold & Beautiful: Kathryn Budig's Collection Inspiration

It's not the first time we've fallen in love with a collection from Global Ambassador Kathryn Budig, but she still sweeps us off our feet every time! In her newest collaboration with KiraGrace, Kathryn shows off her signature spunk as she introduces ALL NEW colors that are guaranteed to turn heads. Whether you're going green in the down-to-earth olive tone or feeling bold in our white-hot summer hue, these new pieces are a functional and fabulous addition to your yoga wardrobe. Here’s the greatest part: these gorgeous, casually chic pieces can transition from the mat to wherever your busy life takes you, so you literally never have to take them off.

We are absolutely delighted to work with Kathryn, and loved hearing more about the inspiration behind these sizzlin’ summer styles…

Slashed 7/8 Yoga Legging in White

KG – What has been your favorite part of collaborating and designing a collection with KiraGrace?

Let me count the ways! Kira is an absolute powerhouse, and I always love collaborating with strong, independent women. She has been open to all of my ideas —safe and insane —in such a nurturing way. It’s hard to find a good teammate, and I feel that completely in our relationship.

KG – What inspired the new colors in your collection?

I normally wouldn’t get caught dead wearing white yoga leggings, but our Kathryn bra and slashed legging look so fresh and hip together. I might be a convert. I also wanted a bra that wouldn’t compete under our white distressed tee.

The olive green was a no-brainer. It’s one of my favorite colors that flatters every skin tone. The olive green is so versatile —clean and easy on the mat, and casual chic paired with our distressed tee, a denim shirt and cool pair of kicks.

KG – What have you found challenging in designing yoga clothes?

One style does not fit or appeal to all. I’ve leaned heavily into creating beautiful and functional bras for larger busts and comfortable leggings for the vertically challenged. What works on one body is completely different on the next, so there’s been plenty of making peace with doing the best I can. My dream and goal is to make our collection as inclusive and accessible as possible, which would mean expanding our sizing even more in future collections.

KG – What fashion designers are you inspired by?

I am absolutely devoted to and inspired by R13, Sacai, Simone Rocha, Dylanlex and Isabel Marant.

KG – How would you style an outfit from this collection outside of a yoga class?

I wear the white look as is or with our distressed white tee, my white Air Force 1s, an oversized denim jacket, hoops and a high pony. The olive green pairs beautifully with pink, so I’ve been rocking it with my pink Blazers and our distressed tee in heather grey tied at the waist. I dress it up with a pale pink fringe necklace from Jahde Atelier and a pair of booties.

KG – What's your go-to summer outfit?

My distressed leopard R13 cutoffs, a rocker tee and my Sacai x Nike Blazers. At night I swap the sneakers for boots and layers of Dylanlex necklaces.

KG – How would you describe your personal style in three words?

Eclectic, edgy, memorable.

KG – What is your favorite piece in your collection and why?

The slashed legging is my go-to piece, and oddly enough, I’m obsessed with the white pair. Don’t worry, it’s a matter of time before I spill all over them —but until then!!

The cut and fabric is everything —hugs the body without squeezing, tapers beautifully at the ankle, and had an insanely comfortable high waist for those who don’t like to bare their midriff.

KG – How do you want yogis to feel when they put on your pieces?

I want them to feel fashionable, confident and unique. I’m hoping the pieces lend themselves to self-expression. We provide the basic, edgy pieces; you make them yours.

KG – Would you like to give any hints about your next collection launching with KG in the spring of 2019?

Oh man —YES! Our next collection was inspired by the different facets of myself. I wanted to create a collection that mixes edgy with clean, rocker with delicate. I don’t like to be labeled, and that’s the energy behind the pieces. The Kathryn Bra and slashed legging will be refreshed alongside a new cast of unique silhouettes. Oh, and ROCKER TEES.
